Chatham could approve requests to combine overdue and deferred property tax accounts for homeowners meeting age or disability, household income, and residency requirements.
Chatham could combine overdue and deferred home tax accounts on request. A resident must be disabled or at least 65, household income cannot exceed $50,000, and the taxpayer must meet a five-year main-home requirement.
Chatham could approve the property’s listed taxpayer’s request to combine the accounts. Both accounts must already apply to the same residential property in Chatham. At least one resident must be disabled or 65 or older. All residents’ combined income from all sources must be $50,000 or less. The taxpayer responsible for payment must have used the property as their main home for at least five years. All property taxes and built-up interest owed would then follow only the state property tax rules in chapter 59 that apply to Chatham. The measure would take effect when it becomes law.
