If Congress provides funding, eligible health providers could compete for grants to treat people with silicosis regardless of ability to pay and educate workers exposed to silica.
If Congress provides funding, competitive grants would support eligible health providers in treating people with silicosis regardless of ability to pay and educating workers in industries with high silica exposure.
The Department of Health and Human Services would award competitive grants for silicosis care and worker education. Eligible applicants would include federally qualified health centers, hospitals, state or local health departments, and nonprofit health clinics or providers. Grant recipients would treat people regardless of their ability to pay. Grants could support screening, treatment, help with benefits, care coordination, and breathing rehabilitation. The bill would authorize $10 million annually; Congress would need to provide the funding separately. The funding authorization would cover fiscal years 2027 through 2031.
