If enacted, owners of ice vending machines and ice manufacturing plants would send ice samples to an approved lab every quarter to check for bacteria.
Owners of ice vending machines and ice manufacturing plants would have an approved lab test their ice every quarter. Failed tests would bring cleaning and more checks; three straight passing quarterly tests would allow checks up to six months apart.
The Department of Health would require owners to have an approved lab test ice samples each quarter. This would cover owners of ice vending machines and all ice manufacturing plants. Tests would check two kinds of coliform bacteria. No fecal coliforms would be allowed, and the limit for total coliforms would depend on the test method. After a failed test, owners would clean and sanitize the machine or plant, retest until a sample passes, and test weekly until two samples in a row pass. After three passing quarterly tests in a row, owners could space tests up to six months apart. A later failed test would bring back quarterly testing. Owners would keep test reports for at least two years. If enacted, these requirements would take effect within 30 days of enactment.
