The Federal Trade Commission would set rules to protect people who pay for ad-free video streaming from added ads during a defined period.
People who choose a paid streaming option advertised as ad-free would be protected from added ads for at least one year or the contract length, whichever is longer. The protection would also cover subscribers who cancel and rejoin.
The Federal Trade Commission would have to make rules barring streaming services from adding ads to certain ad-free subscriptions. This covers paid internet video subscriptions advertised or offered without ads, including video programming and other video content for viewers. The protection also applies when a service is offered through a third party. The FTC would have one year after enactment to issue rules. For an original subscription, the ad protection would last for one year from the first subscription date or the full contract length, whichever is longer; after rejoining, it would last for one year from that date or the contract length, whichever is longer.
