If enacted, federal officials could not make Eglin range areas available for oil and gas work, but valid leases already in effect would continue.
Once enacted, the proposal would bar making Eglin range areas available for new oil and gas activity. Valid leases already in effect would remain exempt. The restriction would end if the Secretary of War certifies the range is no longer critical.
Federal officials would not be allowed to make any covered area available for oil and gas leasing, work before leasing, production, or related activity. The covered area is the Eglin Gulf Test and Training Range as designated by the Secretary of War on the enactment date. The restriction would not affect valid leases already in effect on the enactment date. The restriction would begin on enactment and end when the Secretary of War certifies to Congress that the range is no longer of critical use.
