New Jersey would let yearly pay increases for Supreme Court justices and Superior Court and Tax Court judges continue past the current 2027 cutoff.
Pay for Supreme Court justices and Superior Court and Tax Court judges would keep rising with prices past the scheduled 2027 cutoff. Increases would happen only when prices rise and could not exceed 2% a year.
The State Treasurer would keep using a regional price index to adjust covered judges’ annual salaries. This covers New Jersey Supreme Court justices, Superior Court judges, and Tax Court judges. Pay would rise only if the price index rises, with each yearly increase capped at 2%. If enacted, the change would take effect immediately. The Treasurer would set each adjustment by December 1 for payments starting on or after January 1 of the next year.
