Capitol Hill alleys would get the honorary name Electric Way
A public alley system on the Capitol Hill block containing Kingsman Field and Dog Park would receive the honorary name Electric Way.
1
What it does
The Council would give the alleys beside Lots 812 and 814 in Capitol Hill’s Square 1030 the honorary name Electric Way, recalling the block’s streetcar history.
Argument forThe honorary name could help residents and visitors recognize the block’s history as a home for electric streetcars.
Argument againstUsing Electric Way rather than the historic Electric Alley could make the connection between today’s location and old maps less clear.
More detail
The Council would give a Capitol Hill public alley system the honorary name Electric Way. The covered alleys border Lots 812 and 814 in the block identified as Square 1030. The Mayor would need to approve the measure, or the Council would need to override a veto. The designation would take effect after a 30-day congressional review and publication in the District of Columbia Register.
