If it becomes law, sewer authorities could lower new sewer hookup fees by up to half for projects in distressed towns they serve.
Sewer authorities would be allowed to cut new hookup fees by up to half for projects in distressed towns they serve. They could still charge for added hookups or larger connections that increase sewer use.
A sewer authority could lower the fee for a new sewer hookup by up to 50 percent. The discount could apply to new connections for projects in the authority's service area. A town qualifies with a state distress score of at least 45 and keeps that status for three years even if its score drops. The town's governing body would give the sewer authority proof of its distress rating and a list of proposed projects needing sewer service. The authority could still charge for additional hookups or larger connections that increase sewer use. If the bill becomes law, this option would start immediately.
