If enacted, the bill would let qualified pharmacists give patients certain prescribed injections that treat or manage symptoms of psychiatric conditions.
A pharmacist could give a patient a prescribed, FDA-approved injection for a psychiatric condition if the pharmacist meets board-set education and qualification rules.
A pharmacist may give the injection when an authorized prescriber has prescribed it. The drug must be FDA-approved and injected to treat or manage symptoms of a psychiatric condition or disorder. A single dose may treat or manage symptoms for up to 24 weeks. The pharmacist must be educated and qualified under State Board of Pharmacy standards and follow rules jointly issued with the State Board of Medical Examiners. The act would take effect immediately if enacted.
