If enacted, the Social Security commissioner would update age-related terms in agency rules, guidance, and other online and printed materials.
If enacted, Social Security would rename the earliest, standard, and latest ages tied to monthly benefits in agency materials and stop using “delayed retirement credit.”
The Social Security commissioner would replace several age-related terms used by the agency. The changes would apply to rules, regulations, guidance, and other agency materials, online or in print. “Early eligibility age” would become “minimum monthly benefit age,” and “full retirement age” and “normal retirement age” would become “standard monthly benefit age.” The agency would stop using “delayed retirement credit” and would describe age 70—the last age for receiving those credits—as the “maximum monthly benefit age.” The updates would be due by the later of January 1, 2027, or 12 months after enactment.
