Electric utilities that deliver power to New Jersey customers would face board-set minimum staffing for major outage repairs and could request a lower level.
The state utilities board would set a minimum number of workers for each electric utility to employ for repairs after major outages. Utilities could ask the board to allow fewer.
The state utilities board would set a minimum number of workers each electric utility must employ. This covers utilities that deliver electricity to New Jersey customers and workers who repair damage after outages beyond a utility's control that affect at least 10% of its customers for at least 48 hours. The board must consider past staffing, industry standards, other states' rules, and outage risk. Utilities could ask the board to let them employ fewer workers under rules the board sets. The measure would take effect immediately if enacted.
