1
What it does
A tobacco bar could allow cigar and pipe smoking if it meets requirements for age limits, warning signs, employee acknowledgments, and air filtration.
Argument forAdults 21 and older could smoke cigars or pipes inside qualifying tobacco bars that meet the listed requirements.
Argument againstEmployees could face secondhand smoke at work, even though each must sign an acknowledgment of that exposure.
More detail
The proposed text would exempt a qualifying tobacco bar from the public smoking ban. The tobacco bar must have come into existence on or after June 4, 2009. The bar may allow only cigar and pipe smoking, and it must not be a retail food establishment. It must post a notice that cigar and pipe smoking is allowed, bar people under 21 from entering, and require every employee to sign an acknowledgment of secondhand smoke exposure. When applying for or renewing a Class B liquor license, the bar must include building plans showing enough air filtration and exhaust.
