Wyoming’s law sets aside state money for school building projects, approved safety work, and major maintenance payments to school districts.
The law sets aside state money for listed school repairs, building projects, and charter school leases. Each listed project has a maximum amount, and the commission may change the order of some repairs.
The law sets aside $10 million for school safety projects, including safer entrances and vehicle barriers. Districts must apply, and the commission must approve each project before the money is spent.
The law sets aside about $238 million for major maintenance payments to school districts. The money must be used for that purpose.
The school facilities commission directs state money to the listed school building projects and charter school lease costs. The money covers the districts, schools, and projects listed in the law, including a transportation building for Campbell County School District #1. The listed amounts are maximums; the commission may change the order of component maintenance projects to improve efficiency or reflect project readiness. Charter lease funds are for the 2026–27 and 2027–28 school years. Future lease funds may be spent only for charter schools approved to operate. The $2.65 million for a Campbell County school district transportation building adds to earlier funding; the project’s original scope and design must not change. Most project funds are available from July 1, 2026, until the project is complete; starred projects take effect immediately. Charter lease funds cover the 2026–27 and 2027–28 school years.
The school facilities commission distributes $10 million for school safety and security projects. The money is for K–12 school facility safety work, including security entrances, vehicle barriers, and other approved remedies. Districts must apply to the state construction department, and the commission must approve each award. Before spending, the commission must add each remedy to the district facility plan, find it cost effective, and set a maximum budget. The money is available beginning July 1, 2026, until each project is complete. Unspent money for a completed project returns to the state account.
The state construction department provides $237,865,123 in major maintenance payments to school districts. The payments go to Wyoming school districts for major maintenance. The money cannot be transferred or spent for another purpose. About $1.1 million is available from the section’s effective date through June 30, 2028; the rest is available from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2028. Any unspent balance reverts on June 30, 2028.
