Wisconsin agencies would require most employees to work in offices
If enacted, Wisconsin state agencies would require covered employees to spend at least 80 percent of scheduled monthly work hours in agency offices, with exceptions for certain duties and Investment Board employees.
1
What it does
State agencies would require employees to work in agency offices for at least 80 percent of scheduled monthly hours. The rule would exempt Investment Board employees and certain duties already done off site before March 1, 2020.
Argument forHaving employees work in agency offices for most scheduled hours could make it easier for coworkers and the public to reach them in person.
Argument againstEmployees whose duties could be done remotely might have less flexibility because agencies would require most scheduled monthly hours in their offices.
More detail
State agencies would require covered employees to do assigned work in agency offices for at least 80 percent of their scheduled monthly hours. The requirement would cover state agency employees, including employees of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, the legislature, and the courts. The requirement would not cover duties performed off site, rather than at agency offices, before March 1, 2020. Investment Board employees would be exempt. The act would take effect December 31, 2025, if enacted.
