Certain local governments, school boards, and public safety departments would be allowed to decide where their administrators, city managers, and chiefs must live.
Local employers could set where certain leaders must live. County rules cover counties without elected executives; city manager rules cover the city manager system. The bill first applies to people hired on the application rule’s effective date.
Covered local employers would be allowed to decide where specified leaders must live as a condition of employment. The permissions cover city and village administrators, county administrators, school district administrators, city managers, and chiefs of police, fire, or combined protective services departments. County administrators are covered only in counties without an elected county executive. City managers are covered only where a city or village has chosen, or is choosing, a manager under the city manager system. Each covered employer could choose the terms of its residency rule. The initial application rule specifies people hired on that rule’s effective date. It gives no calendar date.
