Eligible service members stationed outside Tennessee can avoid extra all-electric vehicle renewal fees by submitting orders and meeting ownership rules. Members at bases crossing Tennessee’s border do not qualify.
Eligible service members are exempt from extra all-electric vehicle registration fees when renewing their registration. The exemption covers service members in active military service stationed outside Tennessee under military orders. Members stationed at a military base that crosses Tennessee’s border do not qualify. The vehicle must be titled and registered in the service member’s name, alone or jointly with a spouse or direct ancestor or descendant. The service member must give the county clerk a copy of official stationing orders when renewing the registration. The law took effect July 1, 2026, and applies to registrations renewed on or after that date.
