Beneficiaries of certain workers who die because of their jobs or within set periods after retirement would receive a payment, with a higher amount for deaths since January 1, 2025.
A beneficiary would receive $25,000 when a deceased worker meets one of the listed work or retirement conditions. The amount is $75,000 for a death on or after January 1, 2025.
The beneficiary would receive a payment from the employer or, for a participating employer, the Fund. This applies when the deceased person's death arose from and during employment, occurred within five years after retirement, or resulted from a cancer listed in § 65.2-402 and occurred within ten years after retirement. The payment is subject to the provisions of the cited state laws. For deaths on or after January 1, 2025, the payment is $75,000; otherwise, the printed provision sets it at $25,000.
