This proposed version would have Virginia's education department and superintendents' association pair school leaders to share ways to recruit and keep teachers.
Virginia education officials would pair superintendents from low- and high-vacancy divisions to develop ways to recruit and keep teachers. They would set meeting and oversight rules and encourage participation.
Each superintendent pair would report its activities and results to the Department yearly. By November 1, the Department would report program numbers, results, and recommendations to the Governor and education committee chairs.
The Department of Education and the Virginia Association of School Superintendents would run a program pairing superintendents from divisions with low and high teacher vacancy rates. The program would connect superintendents from divisions with fewer teacher vacancies to those from divisions with many vacancies, to develop and use ways to recruit and keep teachers. The act's provisions would expire on July 1, 2029.
Each superintendent pair would report to the Department of Education each year, and the Department would report to the Governor and education committee chairs. Pair reports would cover their activities, ideas discussed, results, and any change in teacher recruitment and retention rates. The Department's report would review program success and recommend improvements or expansion. The Department's report would be due by November 1 each year and cover the preceding school year. The act's provisions would expire on July 1, 2029.
