The Department of Public Safety would provide grants for protective gear. Grants are for protective equipment firefighters wear or use while doing their duties at South Dakota fire departments. Departments must apply; completed applications are considered in the order received. The department must have at least 70% of its firefighters serving as volunteers. Grant money comes from a $5 million general fund appropriation. The Act takes effect upon passage and approval. Unspent or unobligated money reverts after June 30, 2030.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
