Students with asthma, anaphylaxis, or diabetes may manage prescribed medicine at school when their parent and health care provider give the school signed forms.
The law allows students with asthma, anaphylaxis, or diabetes to carry and use prescribed medicine and related supplies at school or school events, if their parent and provider submit required written forms.
The law allows a student to carry and use prescribed medicine and related supplies at school or school events. It applies to students with asthma, anaphylaxis, or diabetes in public and nonpublic schools. The student must have a diagnosis from a licensed health care provider, and the medicine must be prescribed for that student. A parent must give the school written permission and sign a release for the school and its employees and agents, except in cases of wanton or willful misconduct. A licensed provider must give the school a signed statement confirming the diagnosis and the student's ability to manage the medicine, and listing the medicine, dose, use times or circumstances, prescription period, and any allowed supplies. The permission applies while the student is on school property or at a school-related event or activity.
