The proposed resolution would encourage the Executive Board of the Legislative Research Council to form a legislative study committee. The study would examine county boards’ authority, rules for entering mental health care voluntarily or being placed in it against one’s wishes, and connections to reporting through the national criminal background check system. The Executive Board would not be required to form a committee. The study would examine available board training and ways to standardize it. The study would include views from the Attorney General’s office, courts, mental health boards, behavioral health providers, and law enforcement. Any findings and recommendations for future legislation would go to the Executive Board when the study ends.
