Licensed Oklahoma dealers must provide 60-day temporary plates at purchase under these rules. The rules cover motor vehicle purchases, new vehicles including travel trailers and powersports vehicles, and nonresident purchases of used vehicles or trailers. For early motor vehicle registration, this requirement applies when the buyer has not transferred an existing plate. Buyers generally must complete registration within two months of purchase. Nonresident buyers of used vehicles or trailers may drive in Oklahoma with a temporary plate for no more than ten days from purchase. The 60-day dealer plate requirements begin January 1, 2027.
Dealers must issue a 90-day commercial fleet temporary plate at purchase when the buyer meets the requirements. The rule covers vehicles mainly used for business that weigh over 8,000 pounds with their load. The buyer must state that the vehicle will be titled or registered outside Oklahoma. The buyer must show the dealer a valid Manufacturer Fleet Number, the fleet identification number required for this plate. These eligible fleet vehicles are excluded from the two-month application deadline in the general motor vehicle registration rule. The law takes effect November 1, 2026. Eligible buyers receive the 90-day plate at purchase.
