Eligible political donors would be allowed tax credits up to $2,000 for joint filers or $1,000 otherwise. Income limits would be $150,000 and $75,000, respectively; credits could not exceed donations or taxes owed.
Eligible Oregon taxpayers would be allowed a political donation tax credit of up to $2,000 on a joint return or $1,000 on other returns. Donors must give money voluntarily. Federal adjusted gross income, an income figure on the federal tax return, must not exceed $150,000 for joint filers or $75,000 for other filers. The credit could not exceed the money donated or the taxpayer’s state income tax bill. Donations must go to qualified political parties, eligible candidates, or political committees that have properly reported their treasurer. Candidates for federal, state, or local office must appear on an Oregon election ballot or file qualifying candidacy or campaign paperwork in Oregon during the calendar year of the donation. Taxpayers must submit official donation receipts with their tax return. The proposed amendments would apply to tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2026, and before January 1, 2028. If enacted, the measure would take effect on the 91st day after the 2026 regular legislative session adjourns.
