Starting January 1, 2027, Oregon plans that cover cervical cancer screening must cover medically needed screening and follow-up without out-of-pocket charges.
Starting in 2027, people with Oregon health plans that cover cervical cancer screening pay no out-of-pocket costs for medically needed screening or follow-up after an abnormal result.
Health plans that cover cervical cancer screening must provide the covered screening and medically needed follow-up without out-of-pocket costs. It covers group and individual health plans in Oregon, including plans offered by the Public Employees’ Benefit Board and Oregon Educators Benefit Board. Follow-up can use different samples or happen on a different date, and includes colposcopy, biopsy, and additional tests. The rule applies to plans that reimburse cervical cancer screening costs. It does not include services primarily used to treat diagnosed cervical cancer. The rule applies to insurance policies or certificates issued, renewed, or extended on or after January 1, 2027. Public employee and educator plans follow it for plans issued, renewed, or extended on or after that date, and for self-insured plans during periods starting then.
