If enacted, New Jersey professional boards would license eligible veterans with comparable out-of-state credentials while still applying other licensing rules.
Veterans with a good-standing license elsewhere would have New Jersey boards issue comparable credentials when their training and experience match, but exams and other rules would still apply.
Professional and occupational boards would issue a New Jersey license, registration certificate, or certification to an eligible veteran. This covers boards that issue credentials requiring professional training, education, or experience, and applicants honorably discharged from active U.S. military service. The applicant must hold a license, certificate, or certification in good standing in another jurisdiction. The applicant's military or civilian training, education, and experience must be equivalent to the New Jersey requirements. The applicant must meet all other licensing requirements, including any required examination. Boards may request documents needed to decide eligibility and must provide ways to evaluate equivalent training, education, or experience without requiring the same number of experience hours from another jurisdiction. The changes would take effect on the first day of the third month after enactment. Boards may prepare for implementation before that date.
