If it becomes law, this New Jersey bill would make sports wagering licensees adopt and publish rules on limiting betting accounts, and tell bettors in writing why when their account is limited.
Sports wagering licensees and their operators would adopt account-limit rules, get them approved by the state gaming division, and publish them in lounges, online, and in account terms.
A bettor whose account is limited would get a written notice and an explanation, and the limit would be reviewed from time to time.
Each sports wagering licensee and its contracted operators must adopt rules on limits that can be placed on betting accounts, and submit them to the state gaming division for approval. The limits may include limits on play times, maximum wager amounts, and deposit and withdrawal restrictions, but are not limited to those. After approval, the rules must be shown in the licensee's sports wagering lounge, posted on the operator's website, included in the account terms and conditions, and made readily available to all patrons. The bill would take effect immediately.
When a licensee or its contracted operator limits a betting account, it must give the patron a written notice and an explanation for the limit. This applies to any limit covered by the licensee's account-limit rules. A limited account must be reviewed from time to time, under standards set by the division, to decide whether the limit should stay.
