An owner of qualifying property acquired by a township in 2009 could ask the Ohio Tax Commissioner to exempt it and cancel unpaid taxes, penalties, and interest. The commissioner must approve the request if the property meets the rules.
An owner could apply to the Ohio Tax Commissioner to place qualifying property on the tax-exempt list and cancel its unpaid taxes, penalties, and interest. The township must have recorded the deed between January 1 and December 31, 2009. Throughout the time the township owned the property, it must have qualified for a tax exemption because it was used exclusively for a public purpose. The property must meet the stated qualifications. If the commissioner finds that it does not, the county treasurer must collect the taxes, penalties, and interest as required by law. The owner may apply within 12 months after this section takes effect. The application must include property, tax, ownership, and use information; the county auditor must provide required information upon request.
