Selected districts with approved career training programs could seek state grants to develop programs with partners in existing facilities outside their ownership or lease.
For four years, selected districts could receive state grants to develop and run career training programs in existing school or college facilities outside the district's ownership or lease. Awards depend on available state money.
The education commissioner would develop and run a four-year grant program, then award grants to selected districts. County vocational districts and other districts with approved career and technical education programs may apply and partner with other school districts, county colleges, employers, or other entities. Awards are limited by available state appropriations, and the commissioner sets each grant amount. The program must be in an existing school or college facility that the district operating the approved career training program does not own or lease. Applicants must describe their partners, plans, and costs; they may propose repeating an approved program or seeking approval for a new one. The act would take effect immediately. The grant program would run for four years.
