Since July 1, 2025, Nevada districts have been barred from partnering with certain J-1 teacher program sponsors or recruiters charging over $10,000 per person.
A Nevada school district may not partner with a teacher exchange sponsor or recruiter if fees and costs exceed $10,000 per participant or applicant. Existing agreements are exempt until renewed or extended.
A school district may not contract or partner with a covered sponsor or recruiter if the program charges more than $10,000 per person. This applies when a Nevada school district employs or plans to employ a J-1 visa holder through a teacher exchange program. It covers the program's sponsor and anyone recruiting candidates for it. The district's contract or partnership is barred only when the total fees and costs charged per participant or applicant exceed $10,000. The rule applies to agreements in place on July 1, 2025, when they are renewed or extended. It applies for other purposes starting July 1, 2025; preparatory work could begin upon approval.
