The law requires Nevada’s Cannabis Compliance Board to set testing rules for cannabis businesses, including how samples are collected and how much flower laboratories test.
Nevada’s Cannabis Compliance Board must set rules requiring independent testing of samples from every cannabis lot. Each lot is a group with weight limits based on its contents.
The board’s rules must follow an international sample collection standard. Flower testing must use at least 10, 15, or 20 grams of samples, depending on lot weight.
The Cannabis Compliance Board must adopt rules requiring independent laboratories to test samples that represent each cannabis lot. The rules cover licensed and registered cannabis businesses and testing of cannabis and cannabis products. Each lot must come from the same harvest batch, grown by a cannabis cultivation facility from the same strain and harvested on or before a specified final harvest date. A lot may contain up to 15 pounds of flowers or up to 45 pounds of leaves and other plant material, excluding full female flowers. Wet flowers, leaves, and other plant material used only for extraction may form a lot weighing up to 150 pounds within two hours of harvest.
The Cannabis Compliance Board must set sample collection standards and minimum total sample weights for cannabis flower. Collection standards apply to samples from each cannabis lot. The minimum sample weights apply specifically to flower lots. Collection standards must align with the latest version of ASTM D8334/8334M, an international standard for collecting cannabis and hemp samples for laboratory testing. Flower lots weighing less than 5 pounds need at least 10 grams of samples in total. Flower lots weighing at least 5 pounds but less than 10 pounds need at least 15 grams of samples in total. Flower lots weighing at least 10 pounds and up to 15 pounds need at least 20 grams of samples in total.
