Starting January 1, 2027, Nevada’s Medicaid department reimburses family members for covered personal care they provide to certain children under 18.
The Department reimburses family members for covered personal care they provide to children under 18 who qualify for Medicaid care and need help with daily activities.
The state sets aside $135,086 for fiscal year 2025–26 and $414,251 for 2026–27, and authorizes additional spending from other sources for the same purpose.
The Department reimburses family members for Medicaid-covered personal care services. The recipient must be under 18, eligible for Medicaid coverage of personal care services, and diagnosed with a disability or chronic illness that makes them unable to do daily activities without help. The Department must seek any federal waiver or Medicaid plan change needed to receive federal funding for these payments. The provision takes effect for all other purposes on January 1, 2027. Before then, it may be used to prepare regulations and complete other necessary administrative tasks.
The state appropriates money and authorizes other spending for reimbursement costs. The money is for the Department’s Division of Health Care Financing and Policy to cover costs tied to reimbursing family members under section 1. Any unspent state General Fund appropriation must be reverted by the listed deadlines. The funding section takes effect July 1, 2025. Remaining state General Fund money must be reverted by September 18, 2026, for the first year and September 17, 2027, for the second.
