If enacted, labor organization members would gain protection from discrimination in jobs, housing, public places, lending, and other areas.
Labor organization members would join the groups protected from discrimination under New Jersey law, including in jobs, housing, and public places.
The bill would add labor organization membership to the traits protected from discrimination under New Jersey’s Law Against Discrimination. The added protection would cover labor organization members in employment, union membership and training, public accommodations, housing, lending, and certain business dealings. The bill is still in progress, so these protections would apply only if it becomes law. The bill preserves exceptions for some actions tied to collective bargaining, labor disputes, unfair labor practices, or protests of unlawful discrimination. The bill says it would take effect immediately if enacted.
