Nevada law lets the Tax Department send many required messages electronically and sets a deadline for monthly sales and use tax payments.
The Department may send required tax notices and other written messages electronically. People can opt out and receive them by mail, unless another law sets the delivery method.
For applications it reviews, the Board must deny, reduce, or add conditions to a tax break or transferable credit if it finds the full award is not in the State’s best interests.
The Department uses the newest industry classification system for commerce tax categories. A later edition that changes a business’s category needs legislative approval and the Governor’s signature.
Businesses generally must pay monthly sales and use taxes by the 20th day of the next month, starting with tax periods that begin on or after January 1, 2026.
Certain recycling and energy businesses may qualify for a partial property tax break. They must meet the law’s purpose, certification, and other requirements; the break is limited in size and duration.
The Department may send required notices and other written messages electronically. This covers notices, decisions, and other written messages the Department must provide under the tax title. People may opt out at any time; the Department must then send messages by mail unless another law sets a different method. Electronic messages must show or include information that lets the recipient determine when they were sent.
The Board must deny or reduce an application, or add conditions, when it finds the full award is not in the State’s best interests. This applies to applications for tax breaks or transferable tax credits that the Board reviews. The Board may consider water use, social and economic goals, environmental effects, community effects, and the business’s financial stability.
The Department uses the most recent North American Industry Classification System edition to determine a business’s industry for commerce tax purposes. This applies to businesses whose Nevada gross revenue is subject to the commerce tax and to the industry categories used to set its rate. If a later edition would move a business into a different tax category, it cannot take effect unless the Legislature passes and the Governor approves a law adopting it. The classification rules apply to tax years beginning on or after July 1, 2025.
Businesses must pay monthly sales and use taxes by the 20th day of the following month. This covers monthly sales and use tax payments to the Department. Exceptions in law and any payment schedule required by the Department still apply. The payment deadline applies to taxable periods beginning on or after January 1, 2026.
The Office of Economic Development may grant a partial property tax break to certain recycling and energy businesses. Eligible activities include processing materials with at least half recycled on-site, making fuels from recycled materials, and recycling or reusing materials used to produce or store renewable energy. The business must have a primary purpose of saving energy, replacing fossil fuels, or advancing the State’s environmental sustainability and energy goals, and must meet certification and other legal requirements. An approved break must last 1 to 10 years and cannot exceed half of the business’s property taxes each year. It applies only to certified business property, not property already taxable before certification.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
