Senators may join proceedings remotely during exceptional circumstances with approval, under rules adopted for the Nevada Senate’s 36th Special Session.
Senators may take part remotely in Senate or committee proceedings when leaders approve it for exceptional circumstances. Senators joining Senate proceedings from outside Nevada may not vote.
Senate and committee meetings generally must be open to the public, and the rules set procedures for voting and considering bills and resolutions.
The rules allow the Majority Leader or, for certain committees, the committee chair with the Majority Leader’s approval to authorize remote participation. The authorization may cover Senate or Committee of the Whole proceedings, or proceedings of another committee. The relevant leader or chair must find that exceptional circumstances warrant remote participation. A senator participating in Senate proceedings may vote only while joining from a location in Nevada. Senate authorizations must be entered in the Journal; committee authorizations must be entered in committee records. The rules apply only during the 36th Special Session and take effect upon adoption.
