Public buildings would add grab bars to some stalls in restrooms with at least three stalls when building them or making renovations that need permits and cost over $5,000. They would mark those stalls with access signs.
Public buildings would add grab bars and mark equipped stalls with access signs. In public buildings, restrooms with three or four stalls need bars in at least two stalls; five to nine need three; 10 to 15 need six; and 16 or more need one-third. Bars must be reachable by a person of average height and meet state accessibility rules. A renovation qualifies only if it needs a building permit and the restroom work exceeds $5,000. If enacted, the rule would take effect immediately but be enforced only when a new restroom is built or a qualifying renovation occurs.
