The proposal would set aside $1,937,000 from the general fund for the University of New Mexico's Accelerating Resilience Innovations in Drylands Institute. The work would cover New Mexico's air, land, water, and ecosystems, including fire risk, as well as student programs and tribal research engagement. The institute would use the money with the university's Natural Heritage New Mexico program for ecological monitoring, a statewide monitoring network, resilience strategies, K–12 science programs, and tribal research engagement. The money would be available for spending in fiscal year 2027. Any amount left at the end of that year would return to the general fund.
