If adopted, the bill would limit yearly increases in Nebraska subdivisions’ total property tax levies, while allowing extra growth tied to increases in property value.
Starting in 2027, a political subdivision’s total property tax levy could not rise by more than 2% plus growth in its property values. The bill says this limit would apply despite two existing state property tax limit acts.
The proposed rule would limit how much a political subdivision could increase its total property tax levy each year. It would cover the total property taxes levied by a political subdivision in a year. The limit would begin January 1, 2027, and compare each year’s levy with the amount levied the prior year.
