Beginning January 1, 2027, people with resident vehicles may buy annual hangtag permits and move them among their Nebraska registered vehicles.
People with resident vehicles may buy an annual hangtag permit. Its fee includes the cost of two permits and a convenience fee capped at $15; a lost or stolen tag cannot be replaced.
Hangtag permits must be visible from outside the vehicle and displayed from the mirror or on the dash. They may be bought at commission offices and designated state park areas.
The law allows a person with a resident vehicle to buy an annual hangtag permit. Any person with a resident motor vehicle may buy one. It is valid only for the vehicle where it is displayed, but the holder may transfer it among motor vehicles registered to that holder in Nebraska. The fee equals the cost of one resident annual permit, one duplicate annual permit, and a convenience fee of no more than $15. A lost or stolen hangtag cannot be reproduced or replaced. The permit may be bought beginning January 1, 2027, and is valid through December 31 of the year issued.
The law sets display and purchase rules for hangtag permits. Hangtag permits must be visible from outside the vehicle and hung from the rearview mirror, or placed on the front dash if there is no rearview mirror. Hangtag permits may be bought only at commission central or district offices and designated areas of the Nebraska state park system.
