This proposed measure would state that Clinton may continue a voter-approved restaurant tax of up to 2% for tourism and parks until July 1, 2030.
The measure would keep Clinton’s authority to charge up to a 2% restaurant tax for tourism and parks until the stated repeal date of July 1, 2030.
The proposed measure would state that Clinton’s authority to levy the restaurant tax ends starting July 1, 2030. The authority covers restaurants within Clinton that sell prepared food or drinks to the public, but excludes schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and related food facilities. The city could set the tax at no more than 2% of restaurant sales. Before collecting the tax, the city must adopt a resolution and hold an election. At least 60% of voters casting ballots must approve the tax. The tax would support tourism and parks and recreation in Clinton. The stated repeal date is from and after July 1, 2030. The act would take effect after passage, but the tax could not begin until the required local election and notices were completed.
