A proposal would let Noxubee County supervisors choose whether to charge court assessments for county improvements, with authority set to end in 2030.
County supervisors may choose to charge up to $50 for each Implied Consent Law conviction or nonadjudication, and up to $25 for other misdemeanor outcomes or each civil case filed. The money must fund county improvements.
Noxubee County supervisors may choose by resolution to charge assessments in Justice Court. The assessments cover civil cases filed and misdemeanor convictions or nonadjudications in Noxubee County Justice Court. Implied Consent Law cases have a separate, higher limit. The board may impose the assessments at its discretion, in addition to other assessments and court costs. Collected money must go into the county's Capital Improvements Fund and be spent on county capital improvements. The text appears to set repeal from and after July 1, 2030, and says the act would take effect after passage.
