People under Mississippi’s community supervision must pay $55 monthly unless granted a hardship waiver, under rules scheduled to end July 1, 2030.
Rules requiring people under Mississippi’s community supervision to pay $55 monthly are scheduled to end July 1, 2030. A hardship waiver can excuse payments for up to 90 days.
The law sets July 1, 2030, as the date the supervision payment rules end. The rules cover people under the Mississippi Department of Corrections’ Community Services Division, including those on probation or parole. The sentencing court or Department of Corrections may grant a hardship waiver for up to 90 days. Payments cannot be required for longer than 10 years. A court may order imprisonment for nonpayment if it finds the person can afford payment. It cannot do so if the person reports inability to pay in writing under oath and the court agrees. The act took effect June 30, 2026. The first payment is due within 60 days of release from prison unless a hardship waiver is granted.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
