Starkville’s restaurant tax law expires June 30, 2030. Its 2% tax requires approval from a majority of local voters voting on it before it is first imposed.
The law sets June 30, 2030 as the restaurant tax law’s repeal date. The 2% tax covers prepared food and drink sales at Starkville restaurants, including takeout and catering. Before the tax is first imposed, a majority of Starkville voters voting on it must approve it. Schools, hospitals, convalescent homes, nursing homes, and their related food facilities serving students, teachers, patients, visitors, and their families are excluded. The amendment takes effect upon passage. The restaurant tax law is repealed from and after June 30, 2030.
