A listed city or county could ask voters to approve a 2% to 5% tax on overnight stays. The money would fund tourism promotion only.
A listed city or county may submit a proposal for voters to approve a tax on overnight stays. The text applies to the cities and counties listed in subsection 1, including cities and counties with specific population and other requirements. The tax would apply to charges for sleeping rooms at hotels, motels, bed and breakfast inns, and campgrounds, and to certain boat slips rented for sleeping. The tax must be 2% to 5% per occupied room per night, and the money must be used only to promote tourism. The tax must be listed separately from other charges and taxes. The tax would take effect only if voters approve it at a state general, primary, or special election.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
