Missouri voters would decide whether a governor-appointed, Senate-approved director leads the transportation department in place of a commission.
The proposed amendment would put a director appointed by the governor in charge of the department of transportation. The department would oversee the state highway system and other transportation programs and facilities as provided by law. The Senate would have to approve the governor’s appointment. Voters would consider the amendment at the November 2026 general election or at a special election called by the governor.
