If lawmakers approve funding, Missouri counties meeting population limits could receive up to $500,000 total to restore and maintain veterans’ memorials or museums.
Counties meeting population limits could receive up to $500,000 total for veterans’ memorials or museums if lawmakers approve funding. A pre-July 2004 application rule leaves eligibility unclear.
Missouri could transfer up to $500,000 total from the Veterans Commission Capital Improvement Trust Fund to counties meeting the population limits. A county must have more than 17,600 but fewer than 19,000 residents. Its county seat must have more than 8,000 but fewer than 10,000 residents. Lawmakers would need to approve spending from the fund. Counties could use the money only to restore, renovate, and maintain a memorial, museum, or both dedicated to Missouri and United States veterans and their service. The section limits veterans’ memorial funding to applications received by the Missouri Veterans Commission before July 1, 2004. Whether that cutoff governs this county transfer is unclear.
