Proposed amendment would let lawmakers grant subpoena powers
The proposed replacement amendment would let lawmakers give an entity created by executive order certain investigative powers, but only with two-thirds support in each House.
1
What it does
The proposed replacement amendment would let lawmakers give an executive-created entity power to administer oaths, issue subpoenas, and take sworn testimony, if two-thirds of each House approves.
Argument forA two-thirds vote in each House could let lawmakers authorize an executive-created entity to gather sworn testimony and evidence.
Argument againstRequiring two-thirds support in each House could make it harder for an executive-created entity to receive these investigative powers.
