More detail
The Maine Emergency Management Agency administers grants to help eligible nonprofits improve security. A nonprofit must qualify as a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) and show that it or its facilities face a high risk of a hate crime or terror attack. The agency awards grants through requests for proposals and may use part of the allocated money for program administration.
The state allocates one-time funding for the grant program. The funding supports grants to help nonprofits improve security against hate crimes and terror attacks. Some of the money may pay for program administration. Any unspent balance carries forward to the next fiscal year. The $200,000 is allocated for fiscal year 2026–27.
