Starting January 11, 2027, Kansas lawmakers who reach the proposed term caps would need voter petitions to run for another term.
Representatives could be elected for up to six two-year terms, and senators for up to three four-year terms. After that, they would need voter petitions to run again.
Representatives and senators who reach the stated term caps would need nomination petitions to run again. The limits apply separately to representatives and senators. Only full terms count, whether served in a row or with breaks. The petition would need to meet the applicable signature rules, which vary by district and may differ when districts are redrawn. The term limits would apply on and after January 11, 2027.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
