The bill urges lawmakers to assign a 2026 study committee to consider whether visitation rights and court procedures for grandparents should change.
The bill urges a study of whether grandparents with a history of meaningful contact should be able to seek visits, and what court procedures should apply. The study itself would not grant visitation rights.
The legislative council is urged to assign an appropriate study committee to review grandparent visitation. The committee would consider grandparents with a demonstrable history of meaningful contact with a child, along with petition and court procedure requirements. The committee would consider whether visitation rights should expand; this section does not itself grant visitation rights. The committee is urged to study these topics during the 2026 interim. If enacted, the section would take effect July 1, 2026, and expire July 1, 2027.
