If passed, this Illinois bill would require courts to order prison terms one after another after convictions for certain crimes committed on release or in county jail.
After certain convictions, courts would order prison terms served one after another for new felonies committed on release or in county custody, and for specified offenses in county jail.
Courts shall order prison terms to be served one after another in specified cases. This covers a person charged with a felony who commits another felony while on pretrial release or in county detention; a person who batters a county correctional officer or sheriff’s employee while serving a sentence or held in county jail; certain people convicted of a felony who commit another felony while on bond or in detention; people convicted of possessing contraband in county jail; and people convicted of violating bail bond rules. The rule applies after conviction and does not decide guilt.
No hearings or votes scheduled.
